Winners of the Mary Elmes Prize
Founded in 2019, the Mary Elmes Prize in Holocaust Studies helps TY students develop their creative and analytical skills while honing their knowledge of the Holocaust, human rights and civic values. Students complete entries for submission into one of four categories:
Art
History
Literature
Music
A panel of subject experts, including descendants of Mary Elmes, judge and award prizes to the top three entries in each category. All winning entries to the Mary Elmes Prize may be found below.
Students are encouraged to submit a wide variety of submissions drawing on the themes of citizenship, courage and empathy suggested by the life of Mary Elmes.
These may include historical essays on events or people who resisted or lost their lives to the Holocaust, whether famous or little-known; artistic or musical pieces of any genre or form; or creative literature putting the reader in the heart of a story of bravery and adversity during the horrific events of the Holocaust.
There are no strict guidelines or requirements for submission. Students are encouraged to be as creative as possible when creating their submissions.
