A Hopeful Hanukkah

Holocaust survivor Dina Sofer spoke to the USC Shoah Foundation about her memories of Hanukkah celebrations in the Wilno Ghetto in 1942. In her testimony, Sofer remarked that:

We wanted to make a Hanukkah party in the ghetto ... and this was a party to remember. At that time in this place, under those circumstances, this was the biggest Hanukkah party I ever went to.”

Despite the harsh conditions and cruelty of the Ghetto, Sofer and her friends were able to keep their culture and traditions alive. Even in the darkness, these young Jewish people found the light.
