Set in Stone - Dublin Festival of History 2022

Holocaust Education Ireland is proud to announce that we will be participating in the Dublin Festival History 2022.

Dr. Melanie Brown will be presenting ‘Set in Stone’ at Terenure Library, on Monday, October 3rd at 6pm. This talk aims to provide an overview of the lived experiences of Dublin’s Jews during the war years, as well as outlining biographical information regarding Esther ‘Ettie’ Steinberg and other Irish Jewish victims who were commemorated by Holocaust Education Ireland through the laying of six Stolpersteine in June 2022. The talk will also raise questions regarding the Irish government’s attitude towards Jews and European Jewish refugees during the 1930s and 1940s, and will speculate as to the moral culpability regarding the death of Esther Steinberg at Auschwitz in September 1942.

Dr. Brown has lectured in the School of History and Humanities, Trinity College Dublin, for several years and is a Senior Examiner at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Her main research interests include Irish Jewish history; identity politics in respect of ethnic and cultural minorities in Ireland; and the role of liturgical music in religious and cultural identity. Dr. Brown is a board member of Holocaust Education Ireland.

If you would like to attend this talk, please register here for free tickets.

Dublin Festival of History is brought to you by Dublin City Council and organised by Dublin City Libraries, in partnership with Dublin City Council Culture Company.
