“The Holocaust: An Unfinished History” - Dublin Festival of History 2023

Holocaust Education Ireland is delighted to participate in the Dublin Festival of History 2023. “The Holocaust: An Unfinished History” features historian Dan Stone in conversation with Robert Gerwarth, discussing the depth of collaboration across Europe, arguing persuasively that we need to stop thinking of the Holocaust as an exclusively German project.

Stone also considers the nature of trauma the Holocaust engendered, and why Jewish suffering has yet to be fully reckoned with. And he makes clear that the kernel to understanding Nazi thinking and action is genocidal ideology, providing a deep analysis of its origins.

Dan Stone is a historian of modern Europe with a particular interest in the history and historiography of the Holocaust. His work covers the history of fascism from the perspective of history of ideas; the history of genocide; the history of anthropology, especially the idea of ‘race’; and theory of history. He is a professor of Modern History at Royal Holloway, University of London, and is also Director of the Holocaust Research Institute.
