The Mary Elmes Prize in Holocaust Studies - now open for Senior Cycle students!
Holocaust Education Ireland are delighted to announce that the Mary Elmes Prize in Holocaust Studies is now open to ALL Senior Cycle students!
The Mary Elmes Prize in Holocaust Studies is named in honour of Mary Elmes, the only Irish person to be awarded Righteous Among the Nations for her rescue of almost 430 Jewish children in France during the Holocaust. Students are invited to submit a creative response inspired by Mary’s story and the themes of empathy, compassion and bravery. Submissions should fall under one of the following categories:
Music
Literary response
Art
History
First place winners will be invited to participate in the national Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration in January 2025, and will also be awarded an engraved glass trophy, a book token and a lapel pin. All winning entries will also be published on our website.
